“In life we have a choice of either living in our usual unaware way—lost in our thoughts, run around by our emotions—or waking up and experiencing everything freshly, as if for the very first time. We also have the choice of relating bravely to the underlying groundlessness of our situation rather than trying to avoid it.”
― Pema Chodron
Incorporating mindfulness practices into our daily life is proven to increase our ability to deal with both short and long term stress, improve focus and resilience, help us recover more quickly from challenges, decrease both physical and physiological stress-related symptoms, increased ability to deal with chronic pain and renew our excitement and connection to life
Family Healing Pathways offers custom mindfulness programs for organizations as well as 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction classes.
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an 8-week experiential course that includes meditation, mindfulness, and movement practices. These practices support you in developing your inner resources for managing stress, regulating emotions and cultivating resilience. MBSR has been researched for over 40 years and outcomes include a decrease in symptoms in physical and psychological stress-related conditions such as anxiety, depression, chronic pain, stress, and hypertension. Most importantly, these practices nurture a capacity for greater self-compassion, awareness, and appreciation of oneself.
The founder of MBSR, Jon Kabat-Zinn wrote, MBSR is about “redirecting your attention and reconnecting with what is most salient and important for you in the moment, in the here and now of your life unfolding.”
Who can benefit from MBSR:
People come to MBSR seeking relief from many different life stressors including parenting, work, relationships, physical health challenges, depression, anxiety, life transitions, etc.
Some of the benefits of MBSR:
Mindfulness has been shown to reduce suffering and distress and increase well-being by helping participants relate to small irritations, difficult challenges, and suffering with less reactivity.
MBSR is often referred to as “participatory medicine.” These practices can help you access a natural capacity to care for yourself and find greater peace of mind.
Research has shown the majority of people who complete the 8-week MBSR course report some of the following benefits:
- Increased ability to deal with both short and long-term stress
- Improved focus and resilience
- Recover more quickly from challenges
- Decreases in both physical and physiological symptoms
- Increased ability to deal with chronic pain
- Renewed excitement/connection to life

- Brief one-on-one meeting with the instructor prior to the first class
