Vashti Summervill

Certified Parent Coach

I consider it my life’s work to build community and connection. I am mom, a passionate educator and musician. I also have first hand experience parenting teens through very difficult times. I have embarked on a journey to combine my experiences as an educator, artist and as a parent to help develop programs to support and educate parents, especially those struggling in their relationship with “tweens,” teens and young adults.

I am a graduate of The Parent Coaching Institute. I am currently the co-chair of the  St. Luke’s Pediatric Family Advisory Council representing families with children hospitalized due to a mental health crisis.  I am on the board of the Idaho Suicide Prevention Coalition. I am an Associate Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association and I am committed to their Principles of Good Practice.

I regularly tour and evaluate therapeutic programs for adolescents and young adults. I meet with admissions directors, therapists and academic staff to gain a deeper understanding of the profile of child they best serve as well as learn about the methods and principles utilized by each program. Finding the right services for your child can be overwhelming, especially in times of crisis. I can assist you in narrowing your focus and finding the right fit for your child.

I have an extensive performance as well as teaching/directing background. I owned and operated Open Door Music Studio where I taught voice, piano, and percussion ensemble. I also co-founded and co-directed the BIG (Boise Inter-generational) Choir.

I am a voracious life long learner. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado and a Master’s of Music/Vocal Performance from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.  In addition to receiving my Parent Coaching Certification ® I am trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid, ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), and I am a QPR Instructor (Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training). I am an individual member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) and working towards an Associate Membership of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA).  I also have an Idaho Elementary Teaching Certificate with a K-12 Music Endorsement, an Orff Level 1 certificate, World Music Drumming Level 1, and I am a trained Music Together ® teacher. I continue to compose and perform regularly.

My higher calling is to combine all of these experiences to help improve the lives of parents, children and families.

We fill the gap, working to connect people
operating in silos. We also work to connect more deeply to ourselves and create more connected families.

We question our thoughts, striving to parent by
design, not by default. We work to tame reactivity and create new scripts that serve present realities. We believe in the power of the pause.

We practice extreme honesty. We do not
send our representative into the world, but we are in the same boat with those around us. We have the courage to be vulnerable, humanizing ourselves with our kids.

We can change the world by healing our families,
by modeling navigating emotions for our kids and our community. We can break with generational
patterns and beliefs and parent our grandkids. We can change the culture around screen use.
